Have you heard of Grace and Flora? It’s a nature inspired jewellery brand full of stunning

pieces, designed and created by jewellery designer, Kate Harvey. I first discovered Kate’s

work via Instagram and was immediately drawn to her gentle style, as well as her beautiful

photos. Always impressed by her creations, I couldn’t wait to find out a bit more about her

and so I’m delighted to be able to share a little interview I did with Kate.

Hi there, can you tell all of us a little bit about yourself?

I’m Kate (Grace and Flora), a jewellery designer living in South West London. I’m also a mum to the original Grace Flora and work as a counsellor part time.

When did you start jewellery designing?

I started designing jewellery as a teenager, making earrings and necklaces for myself and

friends and then returned to it five years ago (many years later!) when I opened my Folksy

and Etsy shops to see if I could turn it into a business.

What do you love about jewellery designing?

I love so many aspects of designing jewellery, thinking of new things can be challenging and is always exciting. I like to experiment and try a few things before I finalise a design. I also love the making process, I like being at my jeweller’s bench with the torch and solder out, and even the packing up pieces to send out is fun! I have become more and more interested in the photography side over the last year, trying to make interesting photos so people can see the pieces properly and maybe be a little inspired too!

Can you share any top designing/making tips?

I would say my top tip is to only make things that you really love yourself. Also, have a good range to offer, this makes it interesting for you and will also appeal to a wider audience. Don’t be afraid to experiment with creativity, it’s better to make a mistake and grow from it than to limit yourself!

When you’re not designing and making jewellery, what do you like to do?

I love my walks with my dog (this is often where I get my inspiration), looking after my daughter, seeing friends and family and working as a therapist is very rewarding. Thank you so much, Kate. It’s such a pleasure hearing about your creative world!
