Hello there, can you tell all of us at Simple Stylish Makes a little bit about yourself?

Hi, I’m Sam. I live in Landkey in North Devon with my husband, two children (Missy, 14 and Matey, 12) and our bonkers Labrador, Milo. By day I am a Teaching Assistant in the village primary school and in my spare time I am PatternPiper and more recently – Three Cheers For Happy – my new adventure, which you can find on Instagram (@threecheersforhappy).

When did you start designing/making?

I’ve always been a bit of a doodler and can remember someone saying to me when I decided not to go to study Law at university that I should do something creative. I didn’t and I ended up working for the local council. In 2010, when I left that job, I picked up crochet again and that’s when the proper making and designing began. I built up the confidence to start a blog and try my hand at designing some simple crochet patterns and publishing these on my blog. The responses to these have always been so positive, which I think spurs on more creativity.

What do you love about designing/making?

Seeing something that I’ve thought of develop from an idea into a finished make or design. How satisfying is that?! It’s especially lovely to think that someone else likes your ideas and would like you to design or make something for them – this gives me a real buzz.

Can you share any top designing/making tips?

Get your ideas out of your head and on to paper. This is a habit I need to get better at. Also, give yourself a break sometimes and don’t put too much pressure on yourself. If an idea isn’t quite working out the way you planned then maybe that wasn’t the best way to do it in the first place. I often find that if I leave something for a while and then come back to it later, it turns out better.

When you’re not designing/making, what do you like to do?

We’re a bit of a football family. The Mr is the Chairman of Matey’s football club and one of the coaches for his age group. I’m also the Membership Secretary and Missy films the matches for the You Tube Channel, so a lot of our spare time is spent on football, football and more football. But when we’re not doing that we like to watch box sets together (we’re currently watching Prison Break) and I’m always crocheting when we do this. Crochet time is quite limited nowadays so I must fit it in when I can.

Thanks so much, Sam! It’s been wonderful hearing all about your creative world and I’m sure others will be inspired by you too. Keep up the awesome makes!
